'Mookie Blaylock' [Pearl Jam] First Show (22/10/1990)
Mookie Blaylock performed their first live show at the Off Ramp Cafe in Seattle.
attendance: 299
supporting: Inspector Luv and the Ride Me Babies (who later became Green Apple Quickstep), Bathtub Gin
soundcheck: Even Flow
set: Release, Alone, Alive, Once, Even Flow, Black, Breath
enc: Girl
notes: In the first week after their initial meeting, the members of the band that will become Pearl Jam play this show as "Mookie Blaylock." Sounds like my first band in my garage without the talent. Long live Pearl Jam
Me rrelajo harto.
It's insane that they never played Just A Girl live after this. It's such a good song.
Excellent beginning of GRUNGE
Sounds slow as a low battery boombox cassette. Still Alive sounds amazing as usual.
Sad thing in a way, is those 300 people had NO idea what they were witnessing
Love the sound of the guitars! Those amps are cranked and to have been there, at this time, would have been incredible to hear and see. Funny hearing the few cheers..
No offense to the producer of Ten..but after hearing these songs and how mature the songs already were, I think that I could have put this album together..🤣 I mean this is incredible to have so many songs so mature..obviously the production quality and the reverb makes the songs sound bigger on the album and they have become better musicians..but dang this is very good..most new bands have to be put with a very senior producer who can help them find their sound and even teach some bands how to play their instruments..but not in this case…heck..plug in some amps..set to 10 and throwing some microphones in and let it rip!!
I mean, Stone and Jeff had been performing in bands for 10yrs by this point and had released 3 records with those bands already, including a major label record with Mother Love Bone. They were already professionals, had a major label deal already in place and a manager. Mike had been playing and performing in a band since he was 14 trying to get a record deal. Eddie, and maybe Dave Krusen, are new guys, but the others already know what they are doing.
@@leinonibishop9480 Fair enough and I would still suggest these songs r so good and to perform them live and for them to sound this “finished.” Is till think that is quite an achievement
Pearl Jam totally ripped these guys off
Ed, Stone, Mike, Jeff, Krusen, one of you out there?
God bless that guy who decided to record first show of an unknown local band.
Someone above said: "The video was shot by the lead guitarist for the opening band 'Lazy F', his name Pete Vasquez."
Thank you!!
Quiero llorar 😢
I can't beilieve there's a register of this.
Okay, think about this... Eddie Vedder received a demo tape from a drummer friend with "Alive" "Once" and "Footsteps" on it some time in Sept 1990. I believe these were instrumental tracks. He added vocals to the songs, and sent them back to Seattle. They guys liked what he sent back and flew him up for an audition. Vedder arrived in Seattle on 10/8/90 for that process. This show was played 2 weeks later... 2 weeks!!! Pearl Jam was destined to be an amazing band. Out of the tragedy of Mother Love Bone bloomed greatness, seemingly overnight. This is one of the best rock and roll stories, imo.
We should all praise the person who had the wherewithal to film this slice of music history without knowing what this band would mean to millions
Susan Silver (former manager of Alice in Chains and Soundgarden) says in her book "Grunge Is Dead: The Oral History of Seattle Rock Music" that it was someone from Alice in Chains who recorded it. Edit: Whoops, I was talking about their show at the Moore Theater, which was actually their *second* show. This one was their first.
To me, this show will always be the time that Pearl Jam opened for my cousin's band.
Where you there?
Alice In Chains has a member that’s your cousin. That’s what’s up
What amps are mike and stone using???

Thanks for posting this. I'm guessing b4 napster, and RUclips, if you had this bootleg video, you probably could of gotten a good payday for a copy. I can't imagine there was too many of those floating around, and few if any are there with their big video recorder to record some band named after a basketball player. Probably no more than 100 ppl in that place.
Even before Napster, there were people downloading MP3's on dialup in the mid-late 90's. Get 10-12 songs downloaded, and then burn to CD for the car. Ahh ..the good ole days
Hermoso documental !!!!!
Mookie Blaylock sounds like a very talented guy 😎
Right on glad this was uploaded.
So what have we learned from this? The first time some interesting band performs in a club near you, make sure you're there because before you know it you'll miss Pearl Jam 2.0
They did a concert in St Louis in a air plane hanger at about the same time and we thought they were just some local band plying for some friends and then we hear them on radio and said wtf we seen them the rest is history lOL
Excellent Pearl Jam cover band. Swears the lead singer sounds like EV. Wow
